Abandoned Cart & Incomplete Checkout

Bring customers back to products and purchases they started but did not complete.

Abandoned CartCheckoutPayment Recovery

A customer has found what they want.

They added it to their cart, started checkout, and then disappeared.

The purchase hasn’t happened, but the customer has already shown a strong buying signal.

An abandoned-cart SMS gives them a simple way to return to the purchase and complete it.

Start with the abandoned checkout event

Imagine John adds a pair of trainers to her SwiftCart basket but leaves before paying.

A short time later:

Sender: SwiftCart

Hi John, you left something in your SwiftCart basket. Your Nike Air Max trainers are still waiting: emisri.link/cart/48291

The link should take him back to the relevant checkout or basket rather than making him search for the product again.

Not every abandoned cart needs the same follow-up

The reason for the incomplete checkout matters.

A customer may have:

  • Left during payment
  • Encountered a payment failure
  • Added products but never started checkout
  • Started checkout but abandoned it
  • Returned to the site without completing the order

A payment failure could require a different message:

Sender: SwiftCart

We couldn't complete your payment for order #SC48291. Try again here: emisri.link/pay/48291

That is more useful than treating every abandoned checkout as a marketing opportunity.

The journey should stop when the customer buys

2Customer returns

4Exit abandoned cart journey

If the customer does not return, the business can decide whether another message makes sense.

This is where event-based automation becomes useful: the communication responds to what actually happened.

Where Emisri fits

Emisri can receive or work with customer events, personalise the SMS, connect the customer back to their cart or payment page with Smart URLs, and manage follow-up journeys based on the customer's actions.
